Capello offered England job, according to reports

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has been offered the England job, according to reports in Italy.

The Corriere dello Sport have revealed that Capello has been offered a four-year contract believed to be worth around £19million from the FA to take over from Sven Goran Eriksson after the World Cup.

The Juventus boss, who looks favourite to win the Serie A title this season, is contracted at the Stadio Olympico until 2007 but his future at the club has been put in doubt recently.

Juventus' chief operating officer, Antonio Giraudo hinted this week that the Bianconeri are on the lookout for Capello's successor with Roma trainer Luciano Spalletti the prime target.

Capello is on of many candidates that have so far been linked to the England post include former Celtic boss Martin O'Neill, Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce Bolton's Sam Allardce and Alan Curbishley of Charlton Athletic.

However, it has since emerged that the FA are interested in luring a more high-profile name, with Capello's exemplary success record at club level putting him top of their wish list.

'I have always said that I would be interested in working in England,' Capello said in November. And in January he added: 'Coaching a foreign national side appeals to me. This would take up two to three months of my time and would allow me to travel.'

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp
