Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

The problem though is that although Nigerians have not gotten slower.....the Americans & Caribbeans have gotten faster by about 0.6 seconds and also the Nigerian athletes are not consistent. Peter Emelieze & Obinna Metu had no business running the times that they ran in the heats.

Officially Chidi Imoh's fastest time according to IAAF is 10 flat in 1986

Fasuba's time was strange. He was a world class 60m sprinter but was never a great 100m runner. I dont believe he ever made a major 100m final. Ogunkoya was genuinely fast. He even beat a prime Frankie Fredericks at the All African games that time was set at Altitude in Johannesburg where everyone was running unusually quick times. The golden age of Nigerian mens sprinting was between 91 & 93 with the Ezinwas , Adeniken and Daniel Effiong all active. Sadly -with the exception of Adeniken- all of those guys ended up being banned for drug offences.
