200m Women Final

Post by abacha »

Forget Usain Bolt's 100m victory, forget Serena Williams humiliation of Sharapova to secure a career Grand Slam, forget Phelps smashing all records: the ultimate event of London 2012 takes place Wednesday evening at 9pm GMT. It is the 200m ladies final featuring:

Shelly-Ann FRASER-PRYCE - will she complete an Olympic Double - 100m + 200m?

Veronica CAMPBELL-BROWN (VCB) - will she achieve an unprecedented three consecutive olympic gold in the 200m?

Sanya RICHARDS-ROSS- will she complete an olympic double- 200m and 400m?

Carmelita JETER- Will she make up for the disappointment of not winning the 100m?

Allyson FELIX- Will she add an olympic 200m to her eight world championship gold medal and substitute her 2004 and 2008 silver 200m medal for gold?

My head says it is going to be VCB but my heart says Allyson.

Come on Allyson

I am worried about Jamaica.

They have some very stiff competition from America.

I hope they can somehow pull it off though. I want The Caribbean to destroy America in as many sprint categories as possible.
Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

Apart from some of the men's track events, I just don't seem interested in most of the women's track events when on, due to the absence of Nigerians it seems. :(

Allyson Felix has this in the bag. She will threaten the World Record because of the quality of competition.

the chick was not even trying in her semi's race. that being said, i wouldnt mind seeing her not win the gold. It just rubbbed me the wrong way that she would take a spot in the 100 from the chick she tied with during the U.S. trials and use the 100's as a "warm up" for the 200. her warm up could have been someone else's dream

she did. She has repeated it several times.
Well, there's 100 world champion Carmelita Jeter of Gardena, Calif., but she's joined by a converted long jumper, Tianna Madison of Sanford, Fla. And there's Allyson Felix of Santa Clarita, Calif., who readily admits the 100 is little more than a warmup for her "real" event, the 200.

The "other gir" Tarmor was pressured into conceding the spot. The babe came third and then they came and asked her to compete again? rubbish

"If standing up for what I believe in and not running because I believe I earned that spot, because I believe the emotional roller coaster they put me through was too much to go through at the moment -- if that's what makes you a quitter then I guess the definition of a quitter is misconstrued nowadays," Tarmoh told The Associated
Press in a phone interview Tuesday.

Metalloy They were joint third bruv . Their times were identical to a thousandth of a second. I doubt anybody pressured her into dropping out. They asked her to partake in a run off and she refused probably because she couldnt take the pressure. It wasnt felix's fault she chickened out Nobody uses the olympics to "warm up" in the sense you are using the phrase. Olympics is every sprinters dream. If she said that -and im yet to see a direct quote - i suspect she meant that she (like everybody else) knew Jeter and Shelly Ann Fraser were unbeatable in the 100m and she stood no serious chance of winning it. She had every right to compete in the event. Felix is a sweet and humble girl. That is why she is immensely popular in track and field. Veronica Campbell has denied her two olympic 200m gold medals hopefully she can put that right tonight

Dude you can doubt it all you want but it is what happened. You mention the Olympics is every sprinters dream and then you think she would just drop out of the 100's like that? this is what Tarmoh tweeted
One of the greatest sprinters in Central Coast Conference history also said in a tweet, "Got third at trials and still gotta deal with politics. smh... Wow Life isn't fair. My time will come"
http://www.mercurynews.com/olympics/ci_ ... -run-4x100

Does that sound to you like someone who volunteered to give up her spot willingly. As for the "warm up" there NO sense i am using it. It is her exact words. She knows she had no shot at the 100 but she uses it to tune up for the 200 which she has a good shot at winning.

“The running of the 100-meter rounds in London is Allyson’s real magic bullet for winning the 200,” says two-time 200-meter Olympic medalist and NBC commentator Ato Boldon. “In past years, she would sit in the [Olympic] Village while the 100-meter sprinters ran the 100 and would get a little leaner, a little sharper, and then she would be at a disadvantage in the 200. She doesn’t really care about being 100-meter Olympic champion, and she knows that is one hell of a long shot. But she understands that running the 100 in London will almost guarantee that she wins the 200.”
Everyone in the track world knew what was at stake for Felix in that 100-meter final against Tarmoh, including the reader of the photo finish, who had determined that Tarmoh had finished ahead of her. “If I went back and read that photo 100 times, I would call it the same way every time,” he later told Sports Illustrated. Yet after his initial decision, he still asked for assistance from U.S.A. Track and Field officials. As Boldon says, “Because he felt like this is a really, really big thing, he kicks it upstairs to somebody who is maybe his senior but not necessarily better than him at solving the problem.” That is why in the end Tarmoh felt robbed and why she couldn’t get mentally prepared for the runoff. And it may be why Allyson Felix will win her first Olympic 200-meter gold.

I heard her interview after running one of the races in the 100's at this Olympics where she said the whole "warm up thing"

Yeah right. You posted quotes from avarious sources but cant find a single report to corroborate your claim. Sorry it sounds like youre lying especially when you consider she made this statement
"Everyone just expected me to give up this spot, because I think lots of people ... know me and they know that I'm seen as this very nice girl," Felix said with a chuckle.

"But it's not just about me," added the 26-year-old from Los Angeles, explaining that she had to take into account her coach, Bobby Kersee, family members and others who helped and supported her.

"It's about Bobby and the time he invested in me. It's about my parents and the sacrifices they made, my brother and the agents
as for the other girl you can editorialize all you want. FACT is she gave up her spot rather than compete for it
