Think about the England defense: Stones, Maguire, Walker, and Shaw are dogged, but this is not a world class defense. They can defend but don't bring much offense.

The French defense in contrast is a part of their midfield and offense. Can at least pass out of the back as well as support the attack when needed. Speaking of attack, Mbappe, Griezmann, Giroud, and Dembele complement each other well.
