Who remembers him?

Brian Granville, who started to cover the World Cup in 1950 and wrote The Story of the World Cup has died at the age 93.

Granville has been described by The Times, where he worked for 30 years, as "the doyen of football writers" and by American journalist Paul Zimmerman as "the greatest football writer of all time."

Brian Granville was simply the il fenomeno of football writing.

TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED...
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding...hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe

Yes. Brian Glanville (I often misname as Granville too).

He was a legendary football writer. I first started reading his articles in the 90s in World Soccer magazine.

I actually saw him in London in Holland Park a few years ago and I was going to approach him but wasn't 100% certain it was him. I've since learned he lived in Holland Park so it definitely was him. May he rest in peace.

Same! if not for World Soccer I wouldn't have been kept abreast of the world game. Complete Football magazine was another I used to buy for information on Nigerian football in the 90s.

It was just this morning I realized I wrote Granville instead of Glanville. I wouldn't know why I did that, considering I had never made that error and r isn't close to l on the keyboard.

Anyway, thanks a bunch for pointing it out.
