Egypt 2 (El Mohamady, Salah) - 0 DRC FT

The guy's decision making is just poor, too poor to be wearing a 9.txj wrote:the pass needed to have been better for salah

They seem to be playing 4-4-2, but their full backs are a good 10-20 yards off their line and out of position.
The starting position is different from when they are in the attacking phase.
Pushing the FBs high as Salah moves centrally to become the top striker

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

So basically if you can score on them quickly,...they will be vulnerable to counter attacks?txj wrote:charlie wrote:Scrappy game so far. I dont really understand the shape of this Egypt team.

Not sure how scoring on them quickly makes them vulnerable to the counter.
I think they have problems in central MF and its ability to shield the defence...

Damn. Deadly counter perfected by trez and Sallah. Simply perfect.
Re: Egypt 0 - 0 DRC 1st half
You said it yourself. Pushing FBs high in attacking phase, creates space for pacy attackers on the wings. DRC havent shown the composure and accuracy to exploit those spaces, but other teams in this competition will.txj wrote:charlie wrote:So basically if you can score on them quickly,...they will be vulnerable to counter attacks?txj wrote:charlie wrote:Scrappy game so far. Here Egypt are able to use the FBs to push high and force the DRC wide players to fall back.
And when they are not doing that, they are setting traps for the counterpress and then looking to find Salah on the diagonal run from wide to the center...
The Egyptian weakness is in MF and its ability to shield the defence.
BTW, Liverpool push their FBs high upfield, as do City and Spurs...
