if the plan B was to trigger his full release clause why wait till deadline day ?

Mustaffi and Chambers are injured will fail a medical. Maybe they can do a short term loan to a championship side for Chambers and Saliba.

They probably waited till the last minute to see if they could offload the players to get the funds. Once they realized it was difficult market offloading players. The budget was enough for one of the player not both. They went hard at Aouar for as long they could. They could wait till to the last minute on Partey because the Partey deal can be done quickly. Once Aouar announced that he is staying at Lyon. The only option was Partey. In my opinion. The first option should have been Partey not Aouar.
They never had any intention of buying Aouar. They were only toying with Lyon and Aouar as a bargaining chip to try and move the position of Atletico Madrid

That could be true. But it was no secret that Edu and Arteta liked Aouar.

Arsenal will have to make more moves. Maybe do a short term loan move for Chambers and Saliba to the Championship. Can also look at mutually cancelling Sokratis contract, allow him to leave on a free transfer. They can still do business with EFL clubs until October 16. But no EPL to EPL transfers. The next window opens on January 4. Short term loan deals until then. Then offload Kolasinac, Chambers, and Mustaffi. Send Saliba on loan to Ligue one.
Winners do it the right way.

A few European leagues still have their transfer window open..e.g Portugal. Fingers crossed that we can still move 1 or 2 unneeded players.

My 2 favorite memories from this window:
1. Atletico Madrid getting their feelings hurt after refusing to negotiate all summer for Partey. They said pay the release clause, which we did so why vex?
2. Lyon's Aulas getting stuck with all the players that he planned to sell...Depay, Jeff Adelaide, Aouar after deals all fell through. They needed to sell 2 out of the 3 to balance the books especially after buying Paqueta from Milan. Greedy talkative wanker needs some humble pies
Niente Ÿ impossibile!

Oezil has offered to reimburse Arsenal the salary of your mascot so long he remains an Arsenal player.

Good gesture from Oezil. Every penny counts obviously.

ARSENAL SLAMMED AGAIN

Saint Etienne have slammed Arsenal for scuppering William Saliba's return to the French club on loan.

The Ligue 1 outfit claim they had a deal lined up 'long before the transfer window closed' and blamed the Gunners for not fulfilling their admin duties in England.

A statement on the French club’s official website read: “Long before the transfer window closed, AS Saint-Etienne had reached an agreement with William Saliba and accepted Arsenal's offer for a one-season loan.

“Unfortunately, all the administrative conditions could not be met in time, in England, for the completion of the deal.

“The disappointment is great for ASSE and William Saliba, who was particularly determined to return to a club where he has flourished.”
One thing is for sure.
Arsenal can forget ever doing business with St. Etienne ever again.
If they weren’t gonna play the lad they should’ve allowed him to go on loan until January
at least ..: very strange by Edu and Arteta.

Signing Partey was the priority for Arsenal not getting a loan deal done for St Étienne at the last moment. I wonder if they would have even paid a loan fee or covered his entire salary.

OZIL OFFERS TO REIMBURSE FULL SALARY OF GUNNERSAURUS TO SAVE EMPLOYEE’S JOB / ARSENAL YET TO RESPOND

Save to spend
Arsenal have just spent £45 million on bringing Thomas Partey to the club from Atletico Madrid. The Gunners have long appeared to be in a tough spot when it comes to funds, with 55 members of staff having been made redundant earlier in the summer.

Even Head of Football Raul Sanhelli was not spared, as he too lost his position at the club. The Spaniard publicly claimed that this was due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deadline Day proved euphoric for Arsenal fans, with their big-money signing secured. However, it was slightly tarnished by some sad news.

Jerry Quy, AKA Gunnersaurus, was made redundant by the club after 27 years of service. Considering the lack of fans at the Emirates at present, Quy’s position was deemed surplus to requirements.

Mascots have long been a feature of almost every club. Some even make the trip to away games to cheer on their side. Since 1993, Gunnersaurus has been part of the Arsenal setup, working with the Junior Gunners program, and even taking part in half-time penalty shootouts and charity events.

Ozil to the rescue
Whilst staff members were being made redundant earlier this year, footballers at Premier League clubs continued to be paid high figures. Arsenal’s players did take a 12.5% pay-cut in April, but the gesture has not proven enough to save everyone.

One player, though, has evidently taken exception to Gunnersaurus’ redundancy, and, in turn, offered to help. Mesut Ozil tweeted out that he would be willing to ‘reimburse’ Arsenal for Quy’s full salary. The German vowed that for as long as he remains an Arsenal player, he will attempt to ensure that the famous mascot remains doing the job he loves.

A very kind gesture from the German.

As of yet, Arsenal have not responded, though, and neither has the official Gunnersaurus Twitter account.

Ozil, of course, has not featured for Arsenal since before lockdown. It will be interesting to see how the club responds to the 31-year-old’s proposal.

You are one 'S' short. Plus you are aware he still needs help as Arsenal fell short of an additional target :)
