Barcelona's goal against Villarreal was a thing of beauty (see the video below starting from 0:30). The rapid blink of an eye obe touch passing was brilliant. Man U will have to play really well to go through in this tie.

Lisandro and Sabitzer are injured. Fit midfielders are like an endangered species at Man Utd.

ETH did something tactically cute tonight by playing 4-1-4-1 with Rashford as a CF, Bruno at RW, and Weghorst playing in midfield. I do not think Barcelona expected that formation or the tactics.

When ETH prefers to play a LB at CD instead of Maguire and Lindelof, it is clear he does not rate them and the end is nigh for them at OT.

Has Sancho been put back in the first 11 too soon?

The formation was:

DDG
AWB-Varane-Shaw- Malacia
Casemiro
Fernandes-Weghorst-Fred-Sancho
Rashford

I love the Glazers! Talk about being absolute legends as investors! Use and LBO to buy an asset, invest 150m of your own money and flip the asset for 5B.

Out of his depth. Has been woefully exposed on countless occasions. Huge step up from wherever to where he is now.

As Rodgers, needs a bit of ointment on that Rashy, Rashy, Rashy.

A weird outcome of Newcastle's GK Nick Pope being sent off against Liverpool is that he will be suspended for the Carabao Cup final against Man Utd next weekend. In his absence Martin Dubravka should be the obvious replacement. However, until a few weeks ago, Dubravka was on loan at...Man Utd!

This means that Dubravka is cup tied as he already played for Man Utd in the Carabao Cup earlier this season and cannot play in the final.

This creates a bizarre scenario where Dubravka is banned from playing for either finalist (despite playing for both of them this season), yet could actually get a winner's medal 🏅 if the team he does not currently play for wins the final!

Weirdly, if Man Utd wins the final, Dubravka could get a Manchester United winner's medal since he played for them (not Newcastle) in the cup this season.

Very very strange...

Tuanzebe's loan at Stoke City so far:

Game 1: unavailable due to injury

Game 2: came on as a late sub 8 minutes from full-time

Game 3: unavailable due to injury - again

His career in a nutshell.

I simply cant understand this bloke, what a waste. It is hard to believe that i watched this guy first about 10 years ago and i thought he had so much potentials. But every time he goes on loan he struggles to even make the teams. The potential i saw in him , he should be able to make those teams. It would seem these guys have a chip on their shoulders when they go on loan, believing they are too good to be there. If you cannot make Stoke City team after almost or over 10 years of being a United player, something is wrong very very wrong with his attitude.

@Oloye - Tuanzebe is injured (again). His absence from Stoke’s team is due to injury. He was not dropped due to form. He has no “form” to speak of because he has played about 10 minutes in the last 13 months.

When he first came on the scene as a promising 17yo even the tough to please Mourinho immediately said it took him only 15 minutes of watching Tuanzebe to realise he had “It” (to make it to the top). Gary Lineker also saw him play and praised him highly.

Then he capped it off by returning to the Man Utd team in 2020 after a 12 month injury lay-off, to play in an AWAY Champions League match against PSG. He was brilliant in that game and left the stadium with Mbappe and Neymar in his back pockets.

Rio Ferdinand (who knows a things or two about defending) and Owen Hargreaves raved about his performance on BT Sport, with the latter saying Tuanzebe was so good that it would be impossible for Ole to drop him (“he’s not getting out of the team”).

Of course Ole “rewarded” Tuanzebe for muting 2 of the best attackers in world football by dropping Tuanzebe the very next game (for Maguire), and keeping him on the bench until he got injured again.

Must give ETH credit for his in-game management. When things were not going well and Utd went 0-1 down, he took off Weghorst at HT and brought on Antony (who scored the winning goal), and moved Rashford central.

Today was a demonstration of Fred’s attributes and why he is in the team. Although his playing style can appear chaotic, he has a good engine, charged around the pitch tirelessly, and was always pressurising Barcelona players. His style is not elegant, but it is effective.

And yet, he was insulted by a perennial loser here on CE, who has only become accustomed to losing and pain since Sir Alex, so could recognize that when you have the opportunity to bring in a winner! You say "Yes Sir!"

Its a shame that this shameless loser has not had the self reflection to apologize.

For the upcoming Carabao Cup final, Newcastle has an advantage in it has been able to focus almost exclusively on the final, whereas Man Utd have had to manage playing 7 games in 4 different competitions since reaching the final (in contrast Newcastle has played only 3 matches since reaching the final).

However, Newcastle’s 2 first choice GKs cannot play in the final due to the bizarre GK situation I mentioned above. Ex Liverpool GK Loris Karius will be in goal for Newcastle- his first cup final since THAT Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Speaking of GKs I think Man Utd should play Heaton in goal. He has been a loyal club servant for 2 decades (despite starting only 1 game for the club in 2 decades!). That game was of course the semi-final: in which he was excellent.

What's the point with Weghorst? I don't get it.

...a big for nothing forward, probably signed for big bucks.
If he were a Nigerian some CEs will dub him a basketball player.
Have watched few matches he played in recently the guy looks lethargic and confused.

Last season: Man Utd had too many strikers (Ronaldo, Greenwood, Cavani, Martial etc).

This season: Ronaldo and Cavani left, Greenwood got suspended, and Martial cannot stay fit for more than a few seconds. This left Rashford (who spent the last 6 years playing as a winger) as the only player at the club who can play as a CF (a position he has not played in regularly for over half a decade).

Man Utd was desperate for a striker, but had no money to buy one. We know ETH’s default transfer strategy is to sign players who are either Dutch or that he has coached before (Lisandro, Antony, Malacia, and the bids for FDJ and Arnautovic).

Weghorst fits the bill as he is both Dutch and a former ETH player (and he was signed on loan - hence no transfer fee).

This is Manchester United, regardless of the past struggles. NO EXCUSE! No trophy since when?

They better go for it, and from the utterances of a true winner like ETH, they are clearly going for it. No more bottling it before kick-off by downplaying it Ole style!
