Good player, but the wrong player (style wise). See previous exhibits of this phenomenon on Man Utd over the past decade:

Ronaldo
Pogba
Fred
Mata
Fellaini
Falcao
Di Maria

All of them are good players who unfortunately do not address the team’s main problem areas right now (DM and CD).

FDJ is another VDB. Why pay 70 million for a clone of a player already in the squad? Yesterday I watched Ruben Neves effortlessly spraying the ball ⚽️ around the pitch for Portugal 🇵🇹 from 5-10 yards in front of his CDs; and imagined him sitting in that DM position for Man U and how it would liberate Fernandes, McTominay, and the attackers to bomb forward. Man U has had a massive Michael Carrick sized hole in DM for several years. He was never replaced (Fred is not a regista).

Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold headed off a planned protest outside his Cheshire house by meeting some fans in his local pub.

Anyone know why your hero, Ole, cannot find work?

 the United job made him 'damaged goods'.

The bigger question is, do any of you know what United is up to in this transfer window.
Maybe someone can explain to me what they are trying to do.....

It would be best for both parties to part way

I agree with Jamie Carragher. Ronaldo scored goals but made the team worse (for reasons I have described earlier in this thread). Long term the club cannot build its squad around a 37yo striker - even if he is a legendary goal scorer.

Lest we forget: Man Utd finished 2nd and scored more goals in the season before Ronaldo arrived.

When questions about your contribution to the team start arising, it's best to leave.

But is there any team out there that would love to snap up Ronaldo, he still wants CL football.

United actually may be better off releasing more players and buy later after New manager Ten Hag determines what exactly he needs

Benteke - Ronaldo can continue his romantic pre-retirement tour by returning to the club where he started his career: Sporting Lisbon. He can play the CL football he desires, return to live in his native country for the first time in nearly 20 years, and “give back” to the club that gave him his start in pro football.

I suspect that ETH is secretly happy that Ronaldo wants to leave. It saves him the PR headaches and tantrums from Ronaldo anytime ETH decides to leave Ronaldo out of the starting 11 or substitutes him.

Ronaldo is yet to show up for pre-season training. He may never return to Carrington.

Pip-squeak rumoured to be on his way in. 5ft 9 Bilbo Baggins, looking forward to his face off with Chris Wood. Ryan Fraser fizzing one from the left flank, arms and elbows flying. Que? Too bloody right que!

No elite club in Europe wants CR7.
He was allegedly offered to PSG, and they declined, they already have an old Messi.

CR7 will stay on another season, unless he goes to the MLS

@wiseone what do you make of United constantly chasing a player who keeps making it clear that he would love to stay at Barcelona

Man Utd has excellent experience of signing (or trying to sign) players that did not want to join the club:

1) Di Maria
2) Sergio Ramos
3) Fabregas
4) Falcao
5) Haaland
6) Kroos
7) Bale
8) Pogba

Those worked out really well…

Manchester United is in need of a defensive midfielder and a striker due to the departures of 3 midfielders and 2 attackers during the summer.

The club has a surplus of left backs (Shaw, Telles, and Williams) and attacking midfielders. Logic dictates that the priority signings would be a defensive midfielder and a striker (especially since the club’s top scorer has not shown up to pre-season training and told the club he wants to leave).

Yet the first two signings of the ETH era are:

1) Malacia (a LB - meaning the club now has 4 LBs); and

2) Eriksen (an AM who plays in the same position as the club’s star player Bruno Fernandes and Van de Beek who has been at the club for 3 years and has splints in his azz from sitting on the bench for 3 years).

Manchester United: under new management, but old habits die hard.

The boy knows that Man U’s team is a mess and will drag his stock down. Xavi is trying to build a dynasty at Barca. Frankie is already making a boat load of money at Barca and a few million in raises by going to Man U is not worth the suffering & pressure that will be coming his way.

He is not even mad at Barca for trying to sell him against his wish because he knows they are trying to make a business decision by selling their most prized asset & moving his wages off their books at the same time too.

Embarrassing for everyone involved. Man United just need to move on to other targets, it's clear the young man doesn't want to join them.

Ronaldo’s ego must be hurt with his agent offering him to these big clubs and they are all saying “no thank you!”…No wonder he’s not reporting to preseason tour due to family reasons (my a$$).

One of Manchester United’s biggest problems in recent seasons has been a lack of physicality in the squad. Apart from Maguire, Matic, and McTominay - the squad lacks physical size and strength. This is why they get bullied and beaten by less talented but more physical teams such as Leicester, Brighton, West Ham etc. Matic’s departure excised 33% of the team’s physicality.

Signing 5’7 Malacia, 5’9 Lisandro Martinez, or lightweight FDJ will not solve that physicality issue.

This is a long running problem which Jose Mourinho identified and tried to fix by signing 6’5 Zlatan, 6’3 Lukaku, 6’3 Pogba, promoting 6’4 McTominay from the youth team, and giving 6’4 Fellaini a key role in the team. Only McTominay remains from those 5 giants.
