Egypt v Zimbabawe

Post by olu »

I must saw I was very impressed with Egypt in the first half. The link up play between the midfielders and forwards was very good, and they were able to create several chances. Their front three moved the ball around very quickly and their movement off the ball was also very good. They will cause problems for a lot of teams with their 1-2 passing in the final third. I also like that Salah saw a lot of the ball high up the pitch. You want your most dangerous playing receiving the ball in positions he can do damage to the opposition.

The second half was somewhat different and ZImbabwe got in the game more. Not sure if it was the heat that caused the Egyptians to slow down the pace of the game or may be Zimbabwe just grew in confidence.

Overall I would say Egypt performed well and created enough chances to have scored at least 2 goals. Zimbabwe is a decent team and will probably not be too disappointed to lose by just one goal to the hosts.

Probably an objective analysis from a neutral observer.
If however Egypt yesterday had been the Super Eagles you'd probably have seen it very differently.

My Egyptian friend thinks they played poorly and doesn't think they'll go far based on yesterday's performance.

Exactly Bro, i am of the same school of thought. I think overall Egypt were poor but good in the first half. If they don't improve it will be difficult tournament for them.

First game is often a cagey affair, first priority "Don't Lose". Second priority, secure 3 points.

For the host nation, it's the other way round.

Playing pretty football is good but not the ....

As expressed, we should also consider the weather.

I was impressed by both teams.

Their danger men were contained for the most part.
Billat was not 100% (coming back from injury) and played too deep.

Egypt's goalie looked shaky. He should have been tested a little bit more.

The teams that come out of groups A and D will be battle tested.

:rotf:
But Egypt were playing in conditions they are very familiar with whereas for our boys they aren't used to such conditions. Why not just admit Zimbabwe gave Egypt a game and made them work for the victory and didn't just roll over and die like many predicted we would :curse: :curse:

Zimbabwe played very well, they cut out so many balls to Salah. They knew how to play Egypt's attack, Egypt's lone goal came when Zim was caught sleeping at the back.

Good game Samora.

The game was a poor display from Egypt. If the continue like this, their best will be the quarter finals. Poor midfield and no real threat up front. Zimbabwe was even poorer. Played like high school kids.

Guess we were watching different games. I thought Egypt dominated the first half. Zim got more in the game in the second half. Overall, I thought Egypt were the better team and should have won by more than one goal.
