You lots have been wishing Chelsea away for so long. Be prepared for another disappointment.

The alleged offences:

-100 breaches of FFP rules between 2009-18
-not fully disclosing amount of payments to one of their managers
-under reporting expenditure

…are very similar to the offences that resulted in Juventus being docked 15 points

City could be in some real trouble here.
The allegations are serious, including off the books payments.
Yikes.
They could have the book thrown at them .

They aren't going to be expelled from no damn premier league, they'll get fine or points deduction at most.

Probably. But it is a possibility.

If guilty, what could the punishment be?
According to rule W 51 in the Premier League handbook, a commission has the ability to levy a wide range of sanctions against any club found to have broken the rules. These include fines, the docking of points and suspension, or even expulsion, from the competition. In fact, sub-clause W.51.7 states that the commission can “impose upon the Respondent any combination of the foregoing or such other penalty as it shall think fit”. That even leaves open the possibility of City being stripped of their titles.

My prediction is a fine (which will be a pittance to City). In the 30 year history of the Premier League only 2 teams have ever been docked points (in one case it had severe consequences as it led to Middlesbrough being relegated).

Before the Premier League era Arsenal and Manchester United were docked points 33 years ago (but that was a punishment for their players getting into a fight at Old Trafford and had nothing to do with FFP).

You guys simply dont get it. They will NEVER be able to touch Chelsea. U.S. PE money? Have you lost your mind?

I was literally having this convo yesterday and didnt know this was going to happen today. I was telling my friend how people like City with Arab owners are in trouble in the West, but Chelsea's luck is that they have U.S. money. Money owned by investors who have the White house and the whole congress in their pocket! Touch their money first and see what will happen to you. :rotf: :rotf:

So why did they allow "these Arabs" to take control of Newcastle?

Oga, nobody envisioned City would be as strong as they are now. The money is okay to a certain degree but just don't upset the apple cart. This is why they quickly changed the rules in the middle of the game...

The Qataris are coming for United too. The EPL, as powerful as they may be, know what butters their bread. To come down harsh on City would have reverberations in all the wrong places. In the post-Covid era that saw aged institutions collapse, the oil-slickened pound notes are warmly welcomed.

The Emirati influence in the English football league cannot be understated. Yes, City will be made an “agreed” example of. To cause such an injury as to destabilise their ideas of grandeur would be a huge risk. Simply put, they have given up to much. Every pound is slippery.

The PL will be successful, with or without City.
And the viewership numbers support this.

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.

We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

I hear you. You think if what City did was done by United or Liverpool, and won an appeal at CAS, that would have been end of story and the overriding narrative. City cannot be seen to be outperforming the aristocrats (establishment).
