Ancelotti to leave Real Madrid
Re: Ancelotti fired
The odd thing is that apart from center forward it is hard to find an area of the team that Madrid can strengthen with better players. They already pre-planned for the ageing of their great midfield trio of Casemiro, Kroos, and Modric, by buying Bellingham, Camavinga, and Tchouameni (AKA the 3 best young midfielders in the world). Those 3 signings have ensured that Madrid do not have to sign a midfielder for the next decade.
The rumoured arrival of TAA will give them another attacking RB, Courtois is one of the best 5 GKs in the world (and without him, Madrid would have lost more severely against Arsenal), and with Mbappe, Vinicius, Rodrygo, and Endrick in attack, it is difficult to see where and how the team can be improved by new signings (other than an Osimhen type prolific center forward).

Well, as I am sure you well know, in football, especially at Real Madrid, what you did last year does not count this year.Football is constantly changing: managers' tactics and methods are being constantly worked out and neutralized, new teams are regularly developing fresh and surprising ways of getting to the top, new player additions are constantly making player management more difficult.
That Real got comprehensively beaten this season by CL contenders like Barcelona, Liverpool, and now Arsenal speaks volumes. He may have won a million CLs, but if they want to win more, the club needs to seriously consider whether he is old and past his expiry date.
But surely you knew all this......?![]()

Re: Ancelotti fired
Chief, you are right, though I think they need some more solid backup defenders. They lost four starting defenders for much of the season (Carvajal, Militao, Mendy, and until recently Alaba). But your points reinforce what I am saying about Ancelotti. He has most of the tools he needs, but his methods did not work this season, especially with the addition of Mbappe. A fresh approach may be needed.wiseone wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 9:24 am The odd thing is that apart from center forward it is hard to find an area of the team that Madrid can strengthen with better players. Re: Ancelotti fired
I do not think Madrid needed to sign Mbappe. Madrid did not replace Benzema and instead Perez gave Ancelotti a tactical headache by signing Mbappe and asking Ancelotti to figure how to accommodate two similar players who play in the same position, into the same team. Signing Mbappe was like signing a second version of Vinicius. Mbappe and Vinicius like to take up similar positions on the pitch (cut in from the inside left and bear down on goal
).
Note that PSG also struggled when they had Mbappe and Neymar in the same team, because they similarly liked to take identical positions on the pitch. PSG look like a team reborn now that their coach Enrique has been freed from that tactical straightjacket.

Re: Ancelotti to leave Real Madrid
Being flogged in the Classico once more. 4-2, second half still to play. It’s not easy.

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.
We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

Yes but Real Madrid should have tried to find a replacement to Kroos and Modric.
