Breaking News - Messi to leave Barcelona

Post by lionga »

About time. What ere they thinking trying to force the impossible? Should have happened long ago!

https://news.sky.com/story/lionel-messi ... a-12373719

Lionel Messi is set to leave FC Barcelona after his club said a new contract "cannot happen".

In a statement, the club said: "Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).

"As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.

"FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life."

Losing Ronaldo and Messi is as injurious to La Liga as having Martin Braithwaite the poster boy of Catalonia. There will be an ace up the sleeve. Neither establishment can afford such a departure. Ironically.

Nothing lasts forever. He will end up on money bag team like PSG or Man city, maybe even go to china or Middle East for $1B. Only thing left for him to win is the world and he ain't about to do that.

Probably tax complications.

Which club can afford him?

Is he willing to take a significant salary cut?

How do you run a league and can't find a way to keep Messi?

La Liga announces agreement of €2.7 billion deal with CVC Partners

https://theathletic.com/news/la-liga-ag ... pOPjqzbXyk

La Liga has announced an agreement with CVC Partners which will see €2.7 billion injected into Spanish football to be mostly spent by clubs at all levels to improve infrastructure and off-field business areas.

A new company is to be formed which will control all of La Liga’s business activities — and CVC Partners will have a 10 per cent share in this joint-venture.

La Liga say they will retain control of all sporting and competitive areas but the money and expertise of CVC will allow them to improve innovation and competitiveness throughout Spanish football.

The announcement is of an “agreement in principle” and will have to be ratified by La Liga’s members — the 42 Primera and Segunda Division clubs

Barcelona say Lionel Messi will not be staying at the club "because of financial and structural obstacles".

Messi, 34, has been a free agent since 1 July when his contract expired.

He agreed a new deal on reduced wages with the club two weeks later, but it was dependent on Barca selling players to afford his salary.

"Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled," the club said

Barcelona had said Messi was poised to extend his 21-year association with the club by signing the new deal on Thursday, and blame La Liga for the failure to do so.

He had reached an agreement to stay with the Catalan side until 2026 - but La Liga said the club must reduce wages before he and any new players can be registered.

"Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles [Spanish La Liga regulations]," the club said.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says new deal would have risked club's future

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/58114034

The club's all-time leading goalscorer, 34, is leaving because they could not afford to give him a new contract under La Liga's salary limit.

A private equity firm wanted to invest in La Liga, which could have made signing Messi possible, but would have meant Barca giving up some TV rights.

"I can't make a decision that will affect the club for 50 years," he said.

"The club is over 100 years old and it's above everyone and everything, even above the best player of the world. We will always thank him for everything he's done for us.

Exactly, they cannot afford him due to new salary cap in laliga, but trust g4life to state he was chased out. Let them move on from messi. Barca lost 487 million euros just in one year. They are in the red

Seem you were wrong in not considering the possibility of his leaving.
