This win was good for African footie. Senegal was the best team in the competition and deserved it.bret- hart wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:04 amSeeing them crying gave me so much joy. Arrogant mofos.
It was also great to see Carlos Queiroz's face as his team lost. He was unnecessarily disrespectful towards the ref of the Cameroon game. It was good to see him confined to the stands for the final, and to cap it off, to see his team lose.

I’m happy for Senegal. Good to see them take home their first ACN. Well deserved.
This Egypt team was unimpressive most of the tournament. We won 2/7 matches in normal time, scored 3 goals in normal time, and were outplayed against 3/5 big teams we went up against.
To our credit we went toe to toe with 5 tough teams, had the toughest route in this tourney, and had a good showing for a rebuilding side.
One part of me is optimistic that we’ll continue to get better. The other part tells me our midfield and defense are too weak for us to make an impact. I think if the WC were to start today we’d bow out in any group we played in. If we somehow beat Senegal next month we’ll need all of the 6 months between then and the WC to get our act together. We’re in desperate need of a better CM and AM, and our defenders need to stop fouling with reckless abandon.

Senegal have never really had top strikers and the ones they had like the chaps that used to play for newcastle and Chelsea in the 2010s..forgot their names were flops in the NT. I just feel they have been missing a top CM. If they have a CM controller, they will reach the WC qfs again.marutimon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:07 amChei! Idrissa Gueye? Cheikhou Khouyate? Nope, it doesn't.
They have to go to the world Cup beat the defending champs or a big team and progress to at the quarter finals to that accolade. Using the Afcon alone as the basis is too shallow. MHO.

Most football fans here see football with their EPL glasses. You have to be playing for a top EPL team to be considered good.

The guy is a DM at PSG. That is his specialist position. He is not a CM. If Senegal had a CM like Fadiga or Mikel this game would have been over after 45minutes.... and would have been 2-3 x African champions.chopachop wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:22 amThe PSG scouts must be crap as well.bret- hart wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:08 amHe is not and if he is he is crap.marutimon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:07 amIgnoring everyone else, but how is Idrissa Gueye not a CM controller?bret- hart wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 12:59 amSenegal have never really had top strikers and the ones they had like the chaps that used to play for newcastle and Chelsea in the 2010s..forgot their names were flops in the NT. The 2002 set were warriors. I still remember our games vs Senegal in 2000 and 2002. Those games were wars. They beat France and a very good Swedish team. They should have won the AFCON in 2002 if not for pk and luck saving Cameroon. They were far better than this present set. Forget.

first off, I was going to blast you, however after this last post , you are right that 2002 set were warriors, i would also say one of the best AFCON teams to lose out , they were also close to making the semis. However this team isn't finished yet, this was their 3rd AFCON , lost in 2017 ( pks) lost the final in 2019 due to a deflected shot ,missed making the 2nd round of the WC via a coin toss vs Japan. I think they can only get better, isf they can get ( as you said a controller plus a number 9 ) however the way they pressed the crap out of Egypt in the first half was SE like .. Good goal keeping today saved Egyptbret- hart wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:34 amvancity eagle wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 1:24 amI agree the 2002 was better.bret- hart wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 11:48 pmNahh. If they(Senegal) dont get a midfield controller and to some extent a number 9 they wont go anywhere in Qatar.Trash teams like Egypt wont be at the World Cup.Bigpokey24 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 4:25 amfirst off, I was going to blast you, however after this last post , you are right that 2002 set were warriors, i would also say one of the best AFCON teams to lose out , they were also close to making the semis. I just read a comment where someone described Egypt's tactics in this tournament as "Park the bus and inshallah".
To be honest, while that was said in jest, there is a lot of truth to it, no matter how much our resident football experts try to "modern football" it away as some tactical genius. And how deep they can go into Queiroz's head to bring us evidence that he has planned every second of every game and factored in every trajectory of every moving object on the field -- including the ref.
No, at the end of the day, Carlos Queiroz parked the bus and relied on divine grace. And he carried out this travesty while having one of the best players in the now at his disposal.

I too thought it was a tremendous run and in the end superior Senegal quality told. But it was superb tournament management in how to play to one's strengths, and the bend but not break in defence.
With the squad you had- a single top quality player, not sure there was any other way to execute the tournament except to play tight in defence and then be patient and efficient in when to attack and take chances.
The WCQs though is a different animal. But overall I agree they come several months too early and for the continent's sake SEN should go through..
The EGY league's turning out some good talent, but not fast enough and not in good numbers..But it is. I though Kalla and Hamdy in defence were tremendous..
SEN coach Aliou Cisse should rightly get the coach of the tournament, but for me, much as I dislike the man's approach to the game, I'll give it to Queiroz just based on what he was able to do with the comparatively 'little' he had..
Form is temporary; Class is Permanent!
Liverpool, European Champions 2005.
We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp

Re: [AFCON 2021 Final Match] Senegal 0(4) Egypt 0(2) PKs SENEGAL ARE 1ST TIME AFCON CHAMPIONS!!!!
Our team isn’t very good. Salah is the only top player. We don’t have anyone capable of scoring regularly and no one to get Salah the ball. We defended well in numbers but as individuals are defence is mediocre too.theDunamis wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 3:41 pm I just read a comment where someone described Egypt's tactics in this tournament as "Park the bus and inshallah".
Going into the tourney I said I’d be happy getting to the semis. Winning was a small possibility.
Best Egypt team was 06-10. We’ve gone downhill since which is a shame because we’re wasting Salah’s abilities.
I’m always critical of teams that do the bare minimum to advance in a tourney (Paraguay in 2011 Copa didn’t win a game en route to the final and Portugal at the 2016 Euro made the semis without a win). It’s for this same reason I didn’t think Egypt would be worthy champs. A PK win every now and then is unavoidable but we weren’t good enough to beat most teams decisively. We lack talent.
