Re: Pogba and Kante out of World Cup
As at yesterday morning, Didier Deschamps' record at the World Cup as a player and manager is played 20, lost only 1 (and that was the 2014 QF against Germany).
Yet the man is derided on this forum as "a liability" and "a lousy coach".

Re: Pogba and Kante out of World Cup
France played their B and C team players against Tunisia and included players that would not have made their World Cup squad without injuries to other players such as Kante, Pogba, Benzema etc. Their reserve GK Steve Mandanda is 37yo. If he was Nigerian he would be Nigeria’s first choice GK. France also played other reserves like Konate, Camavinga, and Coman. Those players would walk straight into Nigeria’s first 11. Even the players that France does not want (eg Laporte) would go straight into Nigeria’s first 11.
We have a long way to go.

Re: Pogba and Kante out of World Cup
The "lousy coach" and "liability" Deschamps has just led his team to their 3rd semi-final in the last 4 tournaments.
His updated record at the World Cup as a player and coach reads:
-Played 23 games
-21 games undefeated
-only 2 games lost (1 was a quarter-final and the other a dead rubber match after his team already qualified for round 2 and he played the B team)

Another update on the "lousy coach" and "liability" Deschamps. He has just led his team to their 3rd final in the last 4 tournaments, and a 2nd consecutive World Cup final.

Would Pogba and Kanye had made a difference in this final?

Re: Pogba and Kante out of World Cup
Yes. So would Benzema and Nkunku. Randal Kolo Muani (who missed that gilt edged 1 on 1 chance in the 123rd minute) was not even supposed to be in the squad. Deschamps picked him as an emergency replacement for Nkunku who got injured just before the World Cup.
France reached the World Cup final without 3 of their best 4 players. That is quite an achievement.

Re: Pogba and Kante out of World Cup
Yes oooo. Kante alone would have closed down that midfield. I see France winning the Euros in 16 monthsfuriously frank wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 12:29 am Would Pogba and Kanye had made a difference in this final?
