Well, with nine teams guaranteed a spot, they'd better be there regularly

Agreed! I have always admired Moroccan football. They always play high energy, skillful attacking football. They are the Argentina of Africa in that regard

True. I am sure you remember the 86 WC team. Unlike the likes of Egypt and Tunisia, they don't go there to make up the nos

Speaking of Argentina they are lucky they did not meet Morocco at the WC. Morocco would have beaten them, almost surely

That scintillating 86 team. Their amazing 98 team too. How they did not qualify for the second round in 1998 I will never understand. Let’s not forget their 2018 team too that was so unlucky. Morocco have suffered a lot of bad luck in the past. Very happy for them for their recent successes

That is how you run a soccer federation.

You have world class pitches for your players to play on.

You chose your best players and have a competent coach.

You recruit dual nationals.

And Morocco beat Brazil. African teams have been beating up on Brazil recently. Cameroon did the honors in Qatar

:agree: and a warning message to the world that what happened in Qatar was not a fluke. Teams will play them with a lot more respect now, which opens the door for Morocco to do more damage

E remain to do the same to Argentina. Much more difficult though. Those guys come equipped to dismantle most African teams

Bros Argentina has been superior to Brazil for a long time. The last time Brazil beat a European team in the knockout stages of a WC was in 2002. 21 years ago. Argentina? Beat a bunch of Europeans in 2014 and 2022.

They just play with more fire than Brazil, for now

Yeah not making the World Cup from CAF is almost impossible now.

Now that we have 9 slots, which 5 teams from CAF will be virtually guaranteed of making the WC every time?

I say they are:

Nigeria
Algeria
Senegal
Egypt
Cameroon

A “what if” I ponder is what would have happened if Morocco 🇲🇦 did not have so many injuries going into that WC SF against France? Before that game the following players were injured:

Hakimi
Mazraoui
Saiss
Aguerd
Ziyech
Amrabat

The first 4 players are Morocco’s first choice back 4. Saiss, Ziyech, and Amrabat had to play with injuries (who wants to miss probably the only WC SF they will play in their life?). Saiss dragged himself onto the pitch with his thigh strapped up with plaster. He could barely run and lasted about 20 minutes before he had to come off bc of the injury he took into the game. It was telling that El Yamiq (the player who replaced the brilliant Aguerd) made the early mistake that led to France’s first goal.

Had Morocco 🇲🇦 gone into that game with a fully fit team, could we have been looking at Africa’s first world champions?

That Moroccan goalie partied too much before the game or he has a serious personal issue affecting his concentration.
