Flick sacked after humiliation by Japan

Germany have sacked manager Hansi Flick after the team's 4-1 humiliation at the hands of Japan.
Die Mannschaft went into Saturday's international friendly at Wolfsburg's Volkswagen Arena on the back of two consecutive defeats and were comprehensively beaten by the Samurai Blue.
The shock loss was the final straw for those in power, with 58-year-old Flick winning just 12 of his 25 games in charge after being handed the job in May 2021.
DFB president Bernd Neuendorf confirmed the departure in an official staement, which reads: "The committees agreed that the men's senior national team needs new impetus after the recent disappointing results.
"We need facing the European Championship a spirit of optimism and confidence in our own country. For me personally, it is one of the most difficult decisions of my time in office so far.
"Because I appreciate Hansi Flick and his assistant coaches as football experts and people. But sporting success is the top priority for the DFB. So the decision was inevitable."

Germany 🇩🇪 Coach Hansi Flick Fired
Sad end for Hansi. He had been with the national team for 10 years (if we count his 8 years as assistant manager).
Still, Germany's coaching stability is amazing. Germany has had only 2 managers in the last 17 years.

...saw the highlight video, it was a poor display, but Japan is serious and good too.
Re: Germany 🇩🇪 Coach Hansi Flick Fired
It's only amazing if it leads to something. Sticking that long with Löw and Flick was a mistake.

Re: Germany 🇩🇪 Coach Hansi Flick Fired
You are right - Germany sticking with Low and Flick for so long was a terrible mistake that led to nothing other than Germany winning the World Cup, winning the Confederations Cup, and reaching the European Championship final.
Meanwhile, Nigeria (which routinely fires it coach before major tournaments) has a far more mighty record, having failed to qualify for 3 of the last 6 AFCONs, and winning a grand total of 2 games at the World Cup in the last 25 years.

Yes. Victories against Bosnia and Iceland is all Nigeria has to brag about during the last quarter century at the World Cup.
Re: Germany 🇩🇪 Coach Hansi Flick Fired
Sticking with Löw led to World Cup triumph, that was good. 2016 was ok, but they should have not sticked with him after that. WC 2018 was disastrous and the worst World Cup since WW2 for Germany. DFB decided to stick with Löw nonetheless. Horrible Euro 2021 and finally they parted ways.wiseone wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 12:14 pm You are right - Germany sticking with Low and Flick for so long was a terrible mistake that led to nothing other than Germany winning the World Cup, winning the Confederations Cup, and reaching the European Championship final.

Flick had a horrible World Cup 2022 and they should have parted ways. Instead look at where we are.
Nigeria has its own issues. A different example could be Argentina. Since Löw started in 2006, Argentina has appointed 8 managers.
Germany since then:
1 WC win
1 WC semis
2 WC group stage exits
1 Euro final
2 Euro semis
1 Euro round of 16
Argentina since then:
1 WC win
1 WC final
1 WC quarters
1 WC round of 16
1 Copa win
3 Copa finals
1 Copa semi
1 Copa quarters
So which team has a better record? Germany with 2 coaches or Argentina with 8 coaches?

Who is Germany's new coach? Beating France by 1 right now.

The second successive Bayern coach to be appointed Germany national team manager.
