Whether they pressured the ref or not, this was always going to be a pk on VAR review.packerland wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:46 pmThat’s African defending for you. Egypt act like South American countries the way they surround ref after every foul. I can’t stand that.

It was 100% a pk but I’m sick of them surrounding the ref for every decision that doesn’t go their way. It’s like watching the Classico or Argentina against Brazil or Chile.green4life wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:49 pmWhether they pressured the ref or not, this was always going to be a pk on VAR review.packerland wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 7:46 pmThat’s African defending for you. Re: Egypt vs Mozambique ( 1-2 )
We need to learn that mentality. That's how Mascherano was playing against us for a whole half looking like a slasher flick victim (while we were knocking them out of the WC) and none of our players said pim to the ref.packerland wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 9:06 pmIt was 100% a pk but I’m sick of them surrounding the ref for every decision that doesn’t go their way. Is that a sly salty dig or kudos to their understanding of modern gamesmanship?

TWO THINGS I DETEST ABOUT PKs ON DISPLAY - MOZAMBIQUE UNFAIRLY VICTIMIZED
(1) There was a ball and the attacker and the defender bith went for it. Nothing malicious or reckless about the way the defender went for it but his side was penalized. Would a free kick be even awarded if it took place outside the box, or if it was the attacker who was considered the aggressor. I like to see goals but this is a cheap way to increase scoring and I'm not even sure that objective has been achieved.
(2) The pk was taken by Sallah, a man who was miles away for the scene of the incident. He gets the credit helps his drive for the golden boot award. And the man who caused the pk to be awarded? Nowhere to be found and nothing to his credit.
FIFA needs to look into these - let teams earn their pk's and let the player who creates the pk take it.

...I stand by (1) and (2) above. I'd have felt better if the win came differently though but I'll take it.
