Re: Ghana has fired Chris Houghton
No surprises there. Ghana threw away games in the most incomprehensible ways, mostly due to extreme acts of carelessness from players. That has to come down to coaching and Chris should take the blame for what happened. Nice guy but he just couldn't get the job done

Re: Ghana has fired Chris Houghton
I for one strongly believe the sacking came 4 months too late. He should have been sacked right after the USA and Mexico games. The players made their mistakes but this coach's player selection and substitution patterns more than justified his firing. He was either stupidly naive or a saboteur willfully hired to destroy Ghana football.
If you watch all the Ghana games played under him, anytime Ghana was on the front foot playing good attacking football or went up by a goal, he would promptly substitute the performing attacking players with weaker or spent ones to make the team weaker -- then all of a sudden, the team begins to play under pressure and it stays that way until it concedes.
The funny thing about this guy was he never seemed to learn; always doing the same thing game after game and expecting different results. In fact, Ghana should actually sue him for breach of trust and contractual obligations.

Whatever you are chasing is also chasing you!
Re: Ghana has fired Chris Houghton
Yes Chris was tactically naive and rightfully deserves the sack, but let's not exonerate the shocking decision making of some of the Ghanaian players...like how Ghana threw away a lead against Egypt by brainless plays from Inaki and Osman Bukari, or Richard Ofori strangely handling a ball that was going already petering out anyway and then conceding a corner...Ghana just like Nigeria need am immediate reset and phasing out of certain players for good like the Ayew Brothers etcYUJAM wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 12:47 am No surprises there. Re: Ghana has fired Chris Houghton
Ghana's problem had nothing to do with coaching. Players making some dumb errors here and there. The coach can't teach you that.

Hughton was chasing the famed 40 points for safety. The pairing of a relegation dogfighter with 101 dysfunctional Dalmatians was a recipe for disaster.
Re: Ghana has fired Chris Houghton
Get his surname right Bigpokey24, he is Hughton not Houghton.
Like someone else said earlier, the problem is the players and for me, unreasonable fans. Ghanaians have never recovered from the fact that they lucked out big time on their world class midfield of Appiah, Essien and Muntari who incredible never won an AFCON.
They need to accept that their team is poor and they have no right to think of other teams as smaller than them.
The Ayews are a convenient scapegoat, I wonder which player(s) they will turn on next when those exit stage left.

Apart from Kudus and Williams, most of Ghana’s team is bang average.

Even Williams cost them a match. Right now his younger brother is not regretting dumping Ghana for Spain.wiseone wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:00 pm Apart from Kudus and Williams, most of Ghana’s team is bang average.

A lot of times in sport, that's the truth, but unfortunately, it's the coaches who bear the brunt. Thus, ...bamenda boy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 3:03 am Ghana's problem had nothing to do with coaching. Players making some dumb errors here and there. The coach can't teach you that.
