Uganda 4-2 Congo
Uganda U20 Men’s National Football Team defied odds to storm the final of this year’s African Games after overcoming Congo in the semifinal on Tuesday at Accra Sports Stadium.
In a game of two halves, Congo led 2-0 at halftime but Uganda staged a comeback to win 4-2.
A sloppy start for Uganda Hippos saw them make several mistakes and Congo punished them by scoring.
In the 15th minute, defender Ronald Madoi chose to foul Sarr Samba at the edge of the box rather than containing him.
The resultant free kick was well taken by right back Servyl Akouala whose ferocious strike at the near post beat goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya.
Akouala nearly doubled the lead for Congo two minutes later from another free kick but Kamya parried the ball away.
The goalkeeper fell awkwardly and never returned to his feet. He was eventually rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
Abdu Magada who missed the last two games due to injury, was on bench and replaced Kamya in goal.
With a goal, Congo gained momentum and forced Uganda into making several mistakes. In the third minute of added time for the first half, they doubled their lead.
Mignon Koto dribbled past defender Madoi and fired the ball beyond onrushing goalkeeper Magada.
Uganda returned a different side in the second half and put Congo to the sword to stage a comeback.
Coach Morley Byekwaso made a change before resumption with Hakim Mutebi replacing Ivan Irinimbabazi.

The first goal for Uganda came at the hour mark with Abasi Kyeyune finishing off a team move to ignite hopes of a comeback.
Ten minutes later, striker Buno Bunyaga fired Uganda into the lead with his feeble low drive going beyond goalkeeper at the near post.
In the 73rd minute, Bunyaga scored his second of the day, heading from the far post thanks to Kyeyune’s pin point cross.
Mutebi put the icing on the cake with the four goal in the 81st minute to complete the comeback.
