Former Senegalese striker El Hadji Diouf is once again making headlines over his rivalry with Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto'o.

In the 2000s, Africa experienced a wave of world-class attackers. Serial killers who could single-handedly change the course of matches. Senegalese Diouf was one of them. An unfortunate finalist at the 2002 CAN, he would leave his mark on the continent by winning the African Golden Ball twice (2001, 2002).

Invited on Canal +, the former Bolton player claims that he had more technical qualities than Samuel Eto'o, the current president of the Cameroonian football federation and superstar of world football:

"I may have been more talented (than Samuel Eto'o, editor's note), but he had a better career than me. We have to tell ourselves the truth."

Even if his remarks are nuanced on the fact of a better career of the Cameroonian, they will make people talk. In this sense where for many Cameroonians, Samuel Eto'o remains and continues to be the most talented African footballer in history.

A talent that has translated into his career and the titles won. As a comparison, El Hadji Diouf has 2 African Ballon d'Ors and Samuel Eto'o has 4, including 3 successive ones (2003, 2004, 2005)
"History shows that this club has had very few strikers like him. I do not know if there has ever been anyone like him before. What I do know is that Barcelona should erect a statue for him. Samuel was a fundamental player here in recent years and was key to all of the titles that the team won."

Andres Iniesta, August 2009
