Fact is Phelps did not train seriously leading up to these games. One of the swimmers who did not make the team stated that everything Phelps's camp said about training hard was not true. He said Phelps looked like someone who did not want to be there and that his training regiment was lax. He said from what he saw in training was a man heading toward multiple defeats.

Phelps enjoyed a lot of success at the last Olympics- started chasing women, smoking weed and partying. The burning desire is not there as it previously was. He will still win multiple medals in London to break the record of most medals ever by an Olympian. In the medley he lost and didnt even medal. This is one of the most grueling races and Phelps obviously was not in as good a shape as he has been. He bounced back with a silver medal yesterday evening. In my view, he is going to skate by on talent during these games. He is not in the best shape of his career. Even at that, a Phelps at 75% may still be the best in the world. We will see at the end of the Olympics what the medal count in swimming for men is. I suspect he will be top three.

As for Bolt, he has had hamstring issues leading up to the games. To be frank all these guys running sub 9.8 races make me wonder. This is not a case of Bolt using and the rest of the field is clean. If Bolt is using, they are all using. But there still has not been one shred of evidence against Bolt. And in the past, there were always rumors about guys who were suspected of breaking the rules even when there was no evidence. There hasnt been much of that with Bolt if at all.

Told you guys Phelps would end up having a respectable Olympics based purely on talent. Well, he has 1 gold and 2 silver with more medals still coming.

What are you guys talking about.

Usain Bolt is more than capable of winning the 100m titles again...

If he doesn't....it would have been in his hand. I hope you guys know that Bolt is not as serious about Track as most people. Yes he would like to defend his titles...but he doesn't take the sport like a do or die event.

if he did....nobody would ever come close to him in 1000 years...not Yohan Blake...not Gatlin...not Gay...nobody

Yohan Blake trains a lot harder than Bolt.

But even with all of this said....I still tip Bolt to defend his titles...the times from Yohan Blake....etc are not awe inspiring....and Bolt seems to be getting back to form. On a good day, Bolt will leave Blake in the dust.

Buhari, whose two terms thankfully ground to a constitutional halt in May. (One thing both democracies have going for them is that their leaders, however bad, have only two terms to swing the wrecking ball.) Under Buhari, growth per head also plunged to 0. An economic agenda drawn from the dusty pages of a 1970s protectionist handbook failed to do the trick. Despite Buhari’s promise to tame terrorism and criminality, violence flourished. Despite his reputation for probity, corruption swirled. FT

I don't know much about Phelps but it's not a secret that Bolt is just coming back from a harmstring and back Injuries.

If Bolt was juiced, then Blake and Powell are no exceptions!

The thing about Bolt is that he has a steady progression'

and he has ALWAYS been phenomenal from the very beginning of his track days.

When he was running as a junior...his times were just as shocking as they are now....why? Because his technique was all wrong...he wasn't training...and he was still pushing big times.

So Bolt has always been a phenomenon. If he is taking drugs..then he was always been taking drugs right from when he was 15, 16.

and I don't know if they had such advanced designer drugs back then.

The Jamaicans are actually VERY consistent.

Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Usain Bolt are consistent.

Bolt will be fine.
The disappointing one is Phelps. The guy did not come to compete.

Blake and Bolt have the same trainer and they do train together so if Bolt juices up then it is safe to say so does Blake.

Like tbite said Bolt doesnt take this thing too seriously and I hear he has gotten really cocky (cant blame him). that said, besides being DQed or any mistakes, the 100m and 200m race is between Blake and Bolt. If Bolt messes up Blake will win it

How can you detect a performance enhancing drug if you don't know what you are looking for? That is the problem dope testers face. They can only test for what is known. In the meantime, designers of PE drugs are forever seeking ways to fool testers by using methods not yet known. Until someone spills the beans, and provides a sample of the drug of choice, testers cannot develop a test.
