Played very well? You must have not watched the first half. We played like the only chance we had was to defend and then look for a counter. When we got to the counter, we couldn't do nada. The best time we had in the match was when number 18 came in (I'm not saying she changed the game, but the info given to Asisat by coach on the touchline seemed to create a positive change
I'm curious. What did you expect us to do against Spain the world champs?
There is no team in the world today that plays openly against Spain

Easy to say especially if one is sitting at home and enjoying the game with some beverages...
But the game is played under pressure and against a superior opponent, which Spain are, the important thing is about being effective, not how well or calm you look...

Let’s even be generous and concede arguendo that we had 4 chances…txj wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:00 pmWe had 4 1v1s in the game including the Asisat breakaway. The problem was not our tactical setup.
Yes we lived dangerously the entire game as you would expect.
But the approach got us 4 first class chances.
That's how you assess a game irrespective of who the manager is.
The Spaniards had over a dozen (arguably 26) chances in the SAME game, that’s how I assessed the game and the coach!

If players struggle with ball control and lack the calmness to consistently pick the right pass when playing for the national team is that the coach's fault??Gotti wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:35 pmWho picked the players? And why don’t they similarly “struggle” in their respective clubs?!davidbam14 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:07 pmThere may be issues with Randy's formation/tactics, but when players struggle to control the ball and the calmness to pick the right pass then you're got big problems.
We’ve played 6 games at the WC and Olympics under Coach Randy, and scored in only ONE game.

I wonder when folks are going to understand that performance at this level isn't just about coach and assistants, it's about the entire eco system from selection to training to having a top league. The international coach is just icing on the cake.packerland wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:35 pm The USA is currently beating Germany 3-1. We have a long way to go. Emma Hayes the US coach makes $1.6M a year. She is allowed to select her assistants and no interference on players selection, and her team consistently play friendly games.
The forwards let us down with their finishing and we allowed Spain a little bit more freedom on the ball but the girls try sha. The days of the Falcons losing 4-1 and 7-1 are long gone. We need to convert these slim losses and draws to wins.

And you have to be realistic. This is not the men's u-23 teams. In Olympic women's soccer, you're playing with the full national team. The player that scored against us today has won the female Ballon d'oir twice, league MVP and Spain didn't even need her to win the WC. She barely played due to injury. Some of you are sounding like England fans that ya'll so despise. I don't have a deficit mindset but I'm also a realist. Had David from the bible missed with his sling shot, Goliath would've mauled him to death. We shot our two slingshot, but unfortunately we missed them both.Gotti wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:31 pmfabio wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:04 pmI expect us to win. One therefore ponders why same players only appear to “struggle” when they play under the NT coach.
Anyway, either way, it’s the coach’s fault if he keeps selecting those players who supposedly “struggle” with basics.

If Jette said we defended well I would understand, we were totally dominated from start to finish. Kudos to the girls for some topnotch defending though.jungle-jawara wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 7:56 pm![]()

If you watched the Falcons at the WC, you will understand the mindset. They are content with qualification, not conceding any goals and keeping the defence compact and organized. If possible score one goal from a counter-attack, that would be wonderful, not if, at least we didn't concede or only lost by 1 goal to world class players, former or current world champions etc.davidbam14 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:52 pmdavidbam14 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:47 pmYou're very funny, is there any game not played under pressure? At the end of the day, we played against world class players and teams and we only conceded 1 goal.

The issue is being efficient with the chances you got.

Randy has done excellent work with the Super Falcons' defense, but it's time for him to step down after the Olympics. It's clear that the team lacks effective counterattacking skills and know-how. We need a new coach who can enhance the team's capabilities in both defense and offense.

Seems you only started following Randy reign as SF coach.davidbam14 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 9:14 pmI partially agree but when your forwards make the wrong decision time after time, do we still look at the coach?iworo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 9:10 pm Randy has done excellent work with the Super Falcons' defense, but it's time for him to step down after the Olympics. It's clear that the team lacks effective counterattacking skills and know-how. We need a new coach who can enhance the team's capabilities in both defense and offense.
