Re: Samuel Kalu Scores Stunning 1st Goal For Bordeaux
Google the definition of a playmaker:
The term overlaps somewhat with an attacking midfielder, but the two types of midfielders are not necessarily the same, as playmakers are not necessarily constrained to a single position. Several playmakers can also operate on the wings, or as a creative, supporting striker; some can also function in a more central midfield role, alternating between playing in more offensive roles and participating in the build-up plays in the midfield.
——
We saw the likes of Hazard, Neymar Jr, Salah etc operate as playmakers from the wings at the WC. So not sure why this concept is so hard to understand, Bordeaux plays a similar formation to Liverpool, would you consider Mane and Salah wingers who aren’t playmakers since they play out wide?

Even a creative striker is a playmaker. I.e berghamp, Kanu, suarez, Pele, Messi were all playing strikers or forwards. A playmaker isn’t necessarily someone in the middle

You’ve said just about everything except answer the question I posed. What makes Kalu a playmaker and not Musa or Moses or Simon? The only designation you’ll find for Kalu is winger. At the height of his glory for Bordeaux, he created for himself, scoring a beautiful goal but we’ve seen the same from Musa, Moses and Simon. Being a playmaker is contingent on your ability to create scoring chances for your teammates. So, what exactly are you basing your conclusion that Kalu is a playmaker onmaceo4 wrote:Google the definition of a playmaker:

The only reasonable conclusion one can draw from your lazy postulations (all three of you, bigpokey, maceo4 and yourself) is the trivial conclusion that every damn player on the field is a playmaker. By your assessment, even Emmanuel Okala was a playmaker. Please tell me something that makes more sensejohn12 wrote:Even a creative striker is a playmaker. Re: Samuel Kalu Scores Stunning 1st Goal For Bordeaux
If you said CAM then i'd get your argument, but the definition of a playmaker is much broader, so yes there can be deep lying playmakers, players like Boateng for Bayern and Germany, Sergio Ramos or David Luiz are examples of this - they can sit in defense and make plays with their exquisite passing range. And NO not every player on the field is a playmaker, thats not saying every player can't create a play, but is creating goals and chances their primary role on the team? Are Kante or Ndidi getting accolades for their play making or the breaking up of plays?
But getting back to the point, Kalu is definitely a playmaker on the Bordeaux team, his primary role is creating chances for himself and others. If you are saying he's no CAM then maybe you have a point, but not many teams use the JJ type AM anymore, thats why I'm pointing you to similar players to Kalu who also wear number 10 - from Hazard, Neymar, Salah in Egypt, to Mane, Robben etc.

Someone still thinks that playmakers are synonymous with CAM but they don’t realize that players creating multiple chances and assists can be a team playmaker. There’s definitely a reason why kali was handed that number 10 shirt

Liverpool, European Champions 2005.
We watched this very boring video, 500 times, of Sacchi doing defensive drills, using sticks and without the ball, with Maldini, Baresi and Albertini. We used to think before then that if the other players are better, you have to lose. After that we learned anything is possible – you can beat better teams by using tactics." Jurgen Klopp
