Manchester City's Nigel de Jong has been dropped from the Holland squad after his 'wild' tackle left Hatem Ben Arfa with a broken leg.
The midfielder has been axed by coach Bert van Marwijk for the forthcoming Euro 2012 Group E qualifiers against Moldova and Sweden.
Van Marwijk's decision comes after De Jong's tackle on Ben Arfa in City's 2-1 win at Eastlands on Sunday left the Newcastle player with a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg.
In a statement of the Dutch FA's official website, van Marwijk said on Monday: "I just informed the squad and told them I saw no other possibility.
"In the near future I will discuss this matter with Nigel (de Jong) but right now we have to focus on the upcoming two matches."
Earlier, the Dutch coach hit out at the tackle, branding it both 'wild' and 'unnecessary'.
Too hard
He told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper: "I've seen the pictures back.
"It was a wild and unnecessary offence. He went in much too hard.
"It is unfortunate, especially since he does not need to do it.
"The funny thing is that the referee did not even show a yellow card for it. Apparently, there are other standards.
"But I have a problem with the way Nigel needlessly looks to push the limit. I am going to speak to him."
The latest controversy comes after Bolton's United States midfielder Stuart Holden suffered a fracture to his right fibula after a challenge by De Jong on international duty in March for which the City midfielder was booked.
He also caught Spain's Xabi Alonso with a chest-high challenge in the World Cup final for which he received a yellow card.

So they axe him too bad Man city benefits from it. They only did that to keep the spotlight off them, the Steven Seagal of football should be cited for violent conduct.

Compare this to Shawcross getting his first Cap right after he had broken Ramseys leg...
This is a excellent example set by Van Marwijk, more managers need to think like this.

Re: DE JONG AXED
Skylolo dont even make such comparison, one has a long history that would make Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal green with envy. You could give Shawncross the benefit of doubt, with De Jong it is a trademark. Shawncross still has so many bones to break before he would ever come near De Jong.Skylolo wrote:Compare this to Shawcross getting his first Cap right after he had broken Ramseys leg...![]()

I didn't see anything malicious about the tackle, it was just an unfortunate incident.

It’s not easy for a player to see how he’s outperformed by a 19 year-old kid, but the kid is fantastic. I had the courage to play him and the problem is very simple.

What message? You guys are just reading too much into it, he went in hard, got both the ball and Ben Arfa's leg, simple. Sh*t happens.

We have been brainwashed by the Premier League that it's the best in the world. Nonsense. It's the best brand
Roy Keane: ITV 02/25/14
He says that we are currently "brainwashed" into believing that the Premier League is the best competition in the world, and that we are now a long way off dominating the Champions League again.
Gary Neville: Mirror: 12/23/14
I think Spain’s by far the best league.

See Shawcross in action in Belgium.

Ramsey was not the first legs Shawcross had broken. He broke a player's leg in Belgium when he was there on a year's loan from Manure. He also broke Jeffers ankle and we all know what he did to Adebayor that put him out for weeks with damaged ankle ligaments.
As for De Jong, we all know his track record. I remember him breaking the legs of an American midfielder in a friendly game.

Spastic come on ... there has to be some respect for the welfare of your fellow sportsman...afterall you have to earn a living and its not a full contact sport. I know it could just be that de jong is unlucky but seriously he has hurt quite a few people now... one would think that he would take it easy...easier..spastic wrote:Dude! How do you know it is not malicious? Only De Jong can answer if he intended to do harm to Ben Arfa. However, the way he scissor kicked the player to me shows sign of malicious intent. I have heard ex-players here say there was intent in De Jong's tackle. They should know these things.spastic wrote:Dude! There is a huge difference between a tackle and a reckless tackle. Tackling is an art and you know a mistimed tackle when you see one. None of the tackles by De Jong above were legal according to the rules of the game because they are not mistimed. He goes lunging in without control over his movement, this is dangerous because it is reckless. Good tackles, do not break legs. We have two broken legs and you are actually trying to defend it.
