Champions Nigeria walk tight rope in Sudan
by By Olusola Alao

Nigeria walk a tight rope this weekend in Sudan as they aim to revive their hopes to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Super Eagles are third on Group A table with just a point from two games and well behind Congo and South Africa, who have recorded six and four points, respectively.
The African champions therefore find themselves in a must-win situation in their next qualifying game on Saturday in Sudan.
Both countries have clashed 11 times and Nigeria have won six of these meetings, drawn four times and lost once to the Sudanese.
The only Nigeria loss to Sudan was in 1963, when they fell 4-0 in a 1964 Nations Cup qualifier, while the last meeting was in a friendly in 2008 which Nigeria won 2-0.
Nigeria ran away 4-0 winners on their last visit to Sudan in a 2002 World Cup qualifier 13 years ago with Yakubu Aiyegbeni grabbing a brace.
The Eagles will be without Stoke City Victor Moses, who has suffered a recurrence of a thigh problem at his English Premier League club, and Ukraine-based winger Babatunde Michael, who is nursing a knee injury.
Questions rather than praise have greeted Keshi’s invitation for several uncapped players including China-based striker Aaron Samuel and Reading midfielder Hope Akpan.
However, skipper Vincent Enyeama has rejoined the squad after he stayed away to attend to what team officials said were “pressing personal problems”.
Star-studded Nigeria will also have to cope with boiling temperatures and a late switch for the game to be played on an artificial pitch in Sudan.
FC Ashdod left-back Juwon Oshaniwa has said the team are very much aware of the situation they are in and are ready to give their best to beat Sudan.
"We know how important the game is to our ambition to get to the next Nations Cup, we will do our best to get the maximum six points from both games against Sudan. We remain focused on our target,” said Oshaniwa.
CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa said the Eagles will go for broke against Sudan on Saturday and then four days later in Nigeria.
"We know we are not in the position we ought to be in the group, we are battle ready to give our best to get victory in our next game against Sudan away, then will come back to host them and play for another victory," Musa promised.
Sudan long-serving coach Mohamed Abdallah aka Mazda said they will be fighting for their own lives on Saturday in front of their partisan fans after they lost their opening qualifiers against South Africa and Congo last month.
"We must fight to get a win against Nigeria because another defeat will end our chances of qualifying for the tournament in Morocco," said the highly-experienced coach.

Keshi names unchanged team for Sudan, almost
By Colin Udoh
Stephen Keshi has made just one change from the team that played against South Africa, with captain Vincent Enyeama returning to the starting eleven for Sudan.
Austin Ejide was both goalkeeper and stand in captain for that encounter, but has now given way to Enyeama as the Nigerians March out for what is a must win game against their hosts.
With just one point from their opening two games, the defending champions cannot afford a slip up in Khartoum, and Keshi's line up reflects that mindset, starting with his strongest possible lineup.
Upfront, Emmanuel Emenike is flanked by Ahmed Musa and home boy Gbolahan Salami.
In midfield, Nosa Igiebor joins Ogenyi Onazi and Mikel Obi, while the back four remains as is, with Efe Ambrose, Elderson Echiejile, Kenneth Omeruo and Godfrey Oboabona.

8 mins gone and no meaningful attack by Nigeria. Corner kick taken again exposed the lack of set-play practice
