Agreed. CHeck out the bolded portion of my quote. But in any event, Obodo is the sort of player the SE needs if he improves his workrate and if we have a coach that knows how to utilize him. He is talented to say the least.Robbynice wrote:Ol'boy I agree that we need a coach that can incorporate Obodo into the SE but please make no mistake about it Obodo is no Mikel. He is good but not as good as Mikel. That is very obvious even to the naked and naive eyes.green4life wrote:Yujam, the problem is that the SE have not had a coach who understands & appreciates the value of Obodo. His game is similar to Mikel's except that Mikel has more physical presence and is more effective.

Absolutely boy, Mikel is the best choice mid fielder after papa Okocha retires. And he can smell and breath it too.
A resounding NO is the answer to the question. I first watched Obodo play at the Unity Cup last year and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about!
As has been suggested here already, his best position is obviously as a central midfielder and he is talented no doubt, but for now remains little more than a useful option from the SE bench.

Dude, Obodo does not play an AM role for the Eagles...green4life wrote:For starters, Obodo cannot do any worse than Olofinjana did as a DM.... which was nothing. That's why its easy to blame C3. He pigeon holed Obodo as an AM in the mold of JJ which was never the case if he bothered to watch any Fiorentina games.Eaglezbeak wrote:It seems to me that no one knows where to put Obodo so why did any one blame CCC for messing up?
Even when he plays in place of Okocha, he operates in CM (see the Unity and LG Cups)...
Which is apparently too subtle a difference for some CE folks.
PS: Even Okocha himself often plays in a deeper (than AM) midfield role in Chukwu's Eagles.

And it was "crap coaching in the Eagles" that saw him increasingly acquainting himself with the bench at Florentina. The fact is that Obodo has not YET lived up to the early expectations raised by his reported courtship by Juventus and other top Serie A clubs. And while I am aware that you often review players and performances without the benefit of actually witnessing same, anyone who has seen Obodo at club level this past season saw him stroll through quite a few games.Ayo Akinfe wrote:A good coach will know how to bring out the best in Obodo. A footballer is only as good as his last game while I am sure Obodo is a good player his current form is very suspect and therefore need I say more..... I can't believe the amount of crap players people put forward to represent the country as if the National team is a testing ground for up ad coming prospects. This year has been a nightmare for Obodo he hasn't even played well for Nigeria yet we are debating the position he should feature in rather than is he good enough to be in the team.
Gotti, Respectfully sir, You are Lying boldfacely. Obodo never spent more than 2 games on the bench at Fiorentina. Go and check the records. Its true that the former coach Zoff was "inlive" with Donadel, and dropped Obodo for him. BUT when Donadel disgraced himself, and fiorentina lost one of and drew the other game, Obodo was brought back impromptu. Secondly, Zoff was fired, and the legend, Prandelli, was hired. He fought tooth and nail to keep Obodo, but Chris wanted to reunite with his former coach at Udinese. he will play champions league footy next year.Gotti wrote:And it was "crap coaching in the Eagles" that saw him increasingly acquainting himself with the bench at Florentina. I know u will go at lenght to support CCC's decision, and to be honest with u i dont think we have the right to question CCC's non-use of Chris, but please dont peddle LIEs about Obodo being a bench warmer, becus apart from JJ, Obodo is the next Nigerian that plays most regularly for any club he has ever played for. At perugia, Fiorentina, and now watch Serse Cosmi make him his leader in midfield.
I am with you on this one. I still scrath my head wondering what some of us have fallen so deeep in love with dude. I have seen him in serie A games and SE. He reminds me of Gbenga Okunowo of Barcelona.....pure garbage to be fair.
I agree with GT's assertion that he is a squard player at best. I am so very glad that we may get an FC and this silly shrining of useless players will stop. It is unfortunate that it will take a white man to tell us that Obodo is junk but if that is what it takes so be it.
Let me make a guarantee now that no coach (SE's) will see any need for Obodo or use him more than for garbage time minutes. I am willing to bet he does not make the ANC team unless maybe a Nigerian coach takes us and is bribed.
I really hope we get an FC so that when certain players are finally exposed we will not blame it on bribe, nepotism or trabalism.

I am often left to wonder if the term "back" is accurate.
I did NOT mention any number of games that Obodo was benched...
But any elementray school person will tell you that from 0 to 2 is an "increase"!

From what I recall...kaycee2g wrote:I know u will go at lenght to support CCC's decision, and to be honest with u i dont think we have the right to question CCC's non-use of Chris, but please dont peddle LIEs about Obodo being a bench warmer, becus apart from JJ, Obodo is the next Nigerian that plays most regularly for any club he has ever played for. The same Chukwu capped Obodo, played him severally and was criticized for playing him over Oruma.
As I noted previously...

Actually Obodo played in 33 of 38 league games....kaycee2g wrote:Obodo never spent more than 2 games on the bench at Fiorentina.
And those 33 included games that he started on the bench!
And he played in only 2 of Fiorentina's 6 Coppa Italia games...
But then again, maybe he played all those other games in SECRET!

Gotti, as i said here after the Angola match, those ppl that attacked CCC for picking Obodo above Oruma, where wrong to do so. I said that despite the fact that I think the decision was naive, and that CCC lied to say his reasons was becus Oruma was unfit(hell, half the team was unfit), but i also maintained that its CCC's team. He i the coach, and he makes the decision, and does not need to anwser to any player nor the FA.Gotti wrote:When CRISTAO barks at you to "go back to school"...kaycee2g wrote:Gotti, Respectfully sir, You are Lying boldfacely. That being said, ur comments on Obodo are unfounded. If u watch Serie A, or follow the league as religiously as Paveman and I do, u will know how highly Obodo is rated. The truth is that Chris is misunderstood. Somer ppl see him as an AM, others as a DM. Even CCC saw him as a striker at a certain point. If u watch chris at Perugia and then Fiorentina, u will see what i am talking about. he has been re-united with Cosmi( a man who has great faith in him), u will see how good he will look.
Lets call a spade what it is, CCC failed with Chris, becus he was fixated on the 4-4-2 formation.
Are those 3 odd games part of the ones he was missing becus he was either rested for the Coppa Italia like Miccoli, Maresca, Chielini, Nakata?Gotti wrote:Actually Obodo played in 33 of 38 league games....kaycee2g wrote:Obodo never spent more than 2 games on the bench at Fiorentina.

WHY???
If Chris is crap this season or if he is invited to camp, and the new coach believes that there are b etter players, i see no reason why Chris should start, nor even be on the bench. My objection to ur earlier comments only had to do with the fact that u "insisted" ( for a lack of better word) chris was a bench warmer, which is very untrue and at best an attack on the young man. The fact is that i did not support CCC's choice of 2 Central players, but that does not mean that CCC should or in this case, gave a rats a.s.s. If Chris is found better than Obi, olofi, and the other CMs' then he should be used, if not, he will seat and clap for them.

Dude, if that is the best term that you can find for my assertion, then you really do need to take CRISTAO's advice. I stated that Obodo found himself increasingly on the bench (and going from 0 to 9 is an 'increase' -- even discounting his several sub appearances), which is a FACT (as distinct from an opinion). While you are free to lend a mitigating context to the FACT of Obodo's bench time, it is a LIE to claim that my assertion is false.

Precisely the "stroll" ascription that I made...YUJAM wrote:IMO, Obodo's main weakness is his lacksadaisical play at times.
It is bemusing that some folks think it perfectly alright that he does not play every game at club level, but think that he has been misused because he does not play every Eagles' game.

So u do agree though, that Chris was never at anytime at lenght on the bench. I hardly see how 5 league games missing is an issue. But i hope u also take into consideration that Zoff's like for Donadel was a factor? but all thing sbeing equal( and not wanting to get away from the issue), CCC did not use Chris rpoperly, and is to blame for Chris not being able to adapt.Gotti wrote:kaycee2g wrote:My objection to ur earlier comments only had to do with the fact that u "insisted" ( for a lack of better word) chris was a bench warmer, which is very untrue and at best an attack on the young man.![]()

The aforehighlighted is atbest an assertion of contradiction, or do i say unfounded reason. I find it difficult to see the reason that Chris is misused BECUS he does not play every game. I insist that Chris being misused is from the understanding that when he was used, CCC played him as 1.) a striker, and 2) on the other times as an attacking midfielder.Gotti wrote:Precisely the "stroll" ascription that I made...YUJAM wrote:IMO, Obodo's main weakness is his lacksadaisical play at times.

Find out why Murinho used Robert Huth as a striker, and we can continue this conversation.

This is not the issue. i know u are an angry person, and thus cannot anwser questions straight. As i have said before, what ever way CCC used Obodo is his bizness and not mine. But the issue remains that CCC using Obodo as an AM did not give Chris the chance to be the best he can be.Gotti wrote:While Obodo does not play as an AM under Chukwu....kaycee2g wrote:I insist that Chris being misused is from the understanding that when he was used, CCC played him as 1.) a striker, and 2) on the other times as an attacking midfielder.
