It's a pretty simple equation.

The Saudi Arabia league will eventually become more competitive, and those who are moving there now, may be paving the way. Osimhen may be one of the pioneers. However, it is important to note, that they are the ones doing the work, that future generations will benefit from, they themselves will NOT benefit from the allure. There is NO allure, right now. Osimhen is committing charity in that regard.

On the Financial front, this must be entirely separated from the football argument, they are NOT the same thing. And let us not conflate matters. Financially it is good for Osimhen. Although I think there are ways to MANAGE earnings from Europe. I do not think the earnings in Europe are insufficient, EVEN in the face of injury. I think the bigger story is these guys are subsidising non productive people. They are investing money in people who are not producing anything. Which is the inherent problem. Osimhen himself has been blackmailed and extorted. I think he just needs to take a look at how he manages earnings within his family, and not allow himself to be bullied. The money from Napoli, Chelsea etc. should be enough. It is not chicken change! He is being financially bullied! I mean look at Israel Adesanya. He invests in his family, but in a productive manner. David Adesanya actually earns Israel MORE money, not less. Oluwafemi Adesanya actually earns Israel MORE money, not less.

Israel Adesanya DOES NOT feel compelled to go into boxing for that reason, because his family are actually a positive investment, not a net negative, and they are not extorting him.

On the Football front, it is not a debate, Saudi Arabia is 1000000000000000% the wrong choice.

So for me, when you consider all the elements, KSA is the wrong choice. The best part of the argument is charity. You will help build a better league, but not for yourself, but for footballers in 20 years time. The financial element is simply trying to run away from the underlying problem, which is that his family are draining him.

Go to Chelsea, and reign the family in.

Osimhen earns MORE than Israel Adesanya by the way. And the risks that Israel faces are greater, as far as injuries go.

This isn't about revenue, this is about expenditure. What are the costs that Osimhen faces that he can cut down on. Israel Adesanya has invested heavily into real estate in Auckland. People are saying his career is this, it is going downhill, it is blah blah blah. The guy has invested so much into diverse sources, that even if he is kicked out of the UFC right now, the guy is FINE.

That would be the approach Osimhen should be taking. Don't worry about SPL, just invest, and stop subsidising. If you want to help the family, I don't know, give some of them a stake in some of the investments, send some of them to get their MBA to manage some of the investments. But you cannot let them control you, and most of the money has to be working for you.

If they want money, they can pitch an idea to Osimhen. Hey Victor, I can help you market your merchandise, I will get 20% of the profit. Hey Vic, I can manage your social media profile for you. But maybe it is the precedent of that brother in law and what was presumably a verbal agreement that has complicated matters.

but it is going to be tough to subsidise 30, 50 people, with no actual productive element. That is the issue. That is what makes you guys say that European money is small. If Osimhen is paying for school fees for every tom, d#$% and harry remotely related to him within a 1000km radius, then obviously he will go broke.

I think even if he plays the line of "business has to be separate", I'd focus more on funding ventures which they can do separately. There should not be more than lets say 5 people that he funds continuously. The rest should all be ventures with due dilligence.

Once he has done that, he frees up his capital and the Europe money is no longer seen as peanuts.

If it is about about endless subsidising, even the SPL money might not be enough. Dead money is an endless pit. Victor said on the Mikel Obi podcast that he is essentially afraid of the family. These are guys that will rubbish his name in public, even after all he has done for them. I think, if it boils down to that, we the fans have to do our part to back him up and support him.

Victor Osimhen should not be making decisions out of fear. If the family want to rubbish his name, we will be there. Support the family, but in a structured and fiscally responsible manner. You can't say you are going broke on Napoli or Chelsea money, that is ridiciculous.

Damunk wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2024 12:34 pm Never ceases to amaze me how MONEY seems to be the PRIMARY motivation for a disproportionately high number of my country people.

I know I’m not the only one that thinks this way and I don’t begrudge anyone for holding money in such high regard.
But it does say something about us as a people in my opinion.

There’s only so much money one individual needs in a lifetime even with the extended family and social demands in a country like Nigeria. Money and the opulence it brings has it limits for me and after a point becomes meaningless and can even become a turn off. But I get it if many can’t understand this and would consider me ‘weird’. :rotf:
We are all different.

I’m quite saddened that Osimhen is going this route but I can’t judge him and I wish him all the very best.
I just pray the SE doesn’t suffer as a result.
Nna, some of yous are too funny. Sadden? You don't know the man's journey. Your comment should have been to wish him the best like you did... not feel any sorta way for a man whose journey you have no clue about.

When e reach your turn, do as you want.
You can start by resigning from your well-paying job to take your skills to a remote village in Ogun.

My good man, don't judge a man until you are faced with the same conditions he is facing.
Dude could be looking at how to transform generations to come and not necessarily what he wants.
You might be surprised at what motivates him.
Bro, there’s nothing funny about my position.
To you and millions others, maybe.
But, know there are also millions who think just like me, even in a dysfunctional country like Nigeria.

Bottom line, life is more than just selling yourself to the highest bidder.
I’m pretty sure every Nigerian language has the equivalent of ‘Owo ko ni gbogbo nkan’, simply meaning ‘money is not everything’. We are all taught that as kids, I’m sure.

But like you suggest, who knows his race?
I wish him all the best because regardless, I’m still a fan, :thumb:

Tbite,

You touch on some very significant points. I do state this because the points are similar to my thoughts but the fact is that the trajectory of football occurrences support those points. The first is that moving to Saudi Arabia, in football terms, may not be as some make it. You mention PAVING the way. Sure that is what he is doing. That is what Neymar was doing, That is what several others are doing and will do. The allure, for whatever it is worth, usually drags behind. Going to England, once upon a time, was not the premier thing. In those days the idea was going to Italy or Germany. However, things change. The Saudis are pushing for that change and it has already started -- with or without Osimhen. What we are witnessing in Saudi Arabia is CHANGE for football.

Nevertheless, my concern is NOT about the league itself. My concern is about life-after football and the need to accumulate wealth. Few of the fans wishing for Osimhen to play "Big 5" (Whatever it is called) football will dump a more lucrative employment for one less lucrative. That decision is similar to decision that Osimhen is NOW faced with. However, because humans are often selfish, as fans we want Osimhen to sacrifice opportunity for riches in order to satisfy our enjoyment of watching him more often in the media because of the accessible of European football.

Fans MUST note that this is not just about football for Osimhen or other professionals. This is about a JOB -- WORK, nothing more. Osimhen should not care about fan of this or fan of that. All those are for consuming fans. Osimhen's focus should be about his profession and his advancement in that profession which is often (few exceptions exist, granted) denoted by pay raises. Worse still, football is an extremely short career and thus, accumulation within the period of activity must be a focus. Soon there will be a youngster about to bench Osimhen and the pay day will dwindle.

Finally, if Osimhen chooses to go to Chelsea then he must be clear of the reason why and should be prepared not to have regrets. Chelsea will have a day that the club will dump him for someone younger. That much is CLEAR. As they state: Make hay while the sun shines (a Colonial saying that we have adopted).

For me, whatever Osimhen chooses is okay--- I will love him as a Nigerian fan. He is the ultimate 110 player who BLEEDS TRUE GREEN. He is not a pretender.

Love this. beautifully reasoned. There is a price tag for everyone. Vic should do the best thing for him and family. It is a short career span in soccer. I will support whatever decision he makes and I don't see him giving less to the SE even he plays in Saudi. Good luck to him. I wish it all did not have to hinge on the next few hours./

When I told yall that Conte didn’t want him from the get go, people here claimed that he was just being respectfully of the prior mutual agreement Osimhen had with Napoli to leave.

It gets even worse for Osimhen, Fabrizio is reporting that Osimhen wasn't listed in Napoli's squad list to face Parma, he has officially been frozen out.

Imagine the embarrassment of one of Africa's best strikers pining away time on the bench or getting tossed to the reserves? Nah, he should probably have gone Saudi at this point

If you’ve been in a situation where you have to chose between gigs and offers, you will know that you always go to the most enthusiastic bidder. Go where you are wanted badly no matter what. You will never regret it as there will always be very good/rewarding justification for going with the people that came all out for you. They will worship you! Chelsea was never that enthusiastic - bcos if they were they would have done everything possible to get him. He should have taken the Saudi money and just go. Simple! Rookie mistake that would destroy his confidence.

I doubt Osimhen is the type whose confidence is “destroyed” that easily.
Nah.
If anything, this will embolden him and firm up his resolve.
He has faced worse challenges not only in life in general but also in his footballing career.

I remember watching him recount the challenges he had in Germany and when he was trying to get out of there - the disappointments, false promises etc.
At one point he was the one reassuring his own agent and told him not to worry, “just get me a club, even if na free. I go play” he said. That’s not a guy that allows himself to be set back. He’s a fighter with tremendous self belief.
We see it in him every day.

And to be honest, it doesn’t seem as if money is the determining factor for him either, otherwise Saudi was a done deal.
I salute him. :thumb:

At one point he was the one reassuring his own agent and told him not to worry, “just get me a club, even if na free. I go play” he said. That’s not a guy that allows himself to be set back. He’s a fighter with tremendous self belief.
We see it in him every day.

And to be honest, it doesn’t seem as if money is the determining factor for him either, otherwise Saudi was a done deal.
I salute him. :thumb:
Napoli scuppered the Saudi deal by trying to move the goalpost after transfer fees had been agreed.

Osimhen would need more than strong character to recover from this setback. He would need love from Napoli or a quick exit in January. It’s not easy for a top footballer to be frozen and banished to the reserves for months. Especially a world class striker who believes in his worth.

You are all forgetting that he is a big drain on Napoli’s finances as they had to break their wage structure to renew his contract. Couple that with the scenario where he runs down his contract and leaves Napoli for free.. At the end of the day Napoli has a lot more to lose if they don’t get him sold off at the next available opportunity..

It is apparent that Napoli is being run by bigger fools than the folk at the NFF. Setting that ridiculously high transfer fee was a new low in idiocy.

Osimhen, on the other hand, made a huge mistake by agreeing to a contract extension when he knew he didn’t want to stay at Napoli. What the heck was he thinking❓🤷🏾‍♀️❗️

Cheers.

Going by what has transpired during this transfer window, I think the renewed contract he put in place was a master stroke and helped guarantee that he could negotiate from a place of strength.. if it is true that he was being asked to take a pay cut from 10 - 4M along with all the conditionalities that Chelsea included in the negotiations, I shudder to think of what would have been offered him even if he came free from a xfer fee perspective.. Chelsea’s offer was madly disrespectful and I think all African players need to learn from this and ensure they position themselves to be in a strong position during negotiations so that they are not exploited by these teams.. I mean .. Rashford,Sterling and co all earn over 300k a week and they then begin to low ball Osimhen… my blood Dey boil when I see situations like this playing out

Do we know this with any certainty though?
That’s a key question.

Master strike you say. Are you for real? What exactly is this place of strength he’s supposed to be negotiating from? The reality is that the man has been frozen out of the team with no viable suitors in sight. Unless Napoli reduces their asking price drastically, he could end up not playing football for an entire season. Is that the master stroke you’re talking about❓🤔❗️

He’s been stripped of the #9 shirt and not included in the squad for the season. #9 shirt given to Lukaku.
